Representative Perry's 2007-2008 Legislative Agenda

Boston – Today, Representative Jeffrey Davis Perry (R–Sandwich) filed his proposed legislation for the 2007-2008 Legislative Session.  In total, Representative Perry filed nine pieces of legislation and cosponsored a number of others as outlined below.

The following is a list of Representative Perry’s legislation with a short description.  These proposals will not receive a bill number until they are assigned to committee, which usually happens a few weeks after the filing deadline:

An Act Relative to DNA Requirements for Adoption – This legislation requires a DNA test for anyone desiring to regain custody once the child has been legally adopted by non-biological parents. This is known as the Sarah Joy Act. (Re-File H.1781)

 

An Act Establishing a Regional Lockup – This legislation will create a regional correctional lockup within Barnstable County. (Re-File H.1780)

 

An Act Relative to Political Committees – This legislation allows for the creation of regional political committees. (Re-File H.82)

 

An Act Relative to Commuter Tax Deduction – Creates a tax deduction, up to $750, for commuters who use of public or private transportation for the purposes of employment.

 

An Act Relative to SIDS – This legislation establishes a Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Advisory Committee. The Committee’s main goal is to adopt regulations for the reporting and handling of SIDS cases, as well as promulgate regulations for the training of first responders.

 

An Act Relative to Public Benefits – This legislation establishes comprehensive regulations restricting public benefits for non-residents of the Commonwealth. Mirrored after legislation passed in both Colorado and Georgia, this measure ensures that illegal immigrants do no have access to taxpayer funded benefits.

 

An Act Relative to Home Inspectors –– This legislation limits home inspectors liability from the current three years to one year. (Re-File H.3382)

 

An Act Relative to License Fees – This legislation would exempt those 60 years of age and older from firearm license renewal fees.

 

An Act Relative to the Academic Bill of Rights – Resolution. This resolution states that academic freedom must be respected and conditions for openness and fairness exist in our higher education system. (Re-File H.1234)
